Hi everyone. I am in the middle of our build and looking at Fire Brick. Sorry if this has been asked, I searched and could not find anything about HD specific. I haven’t called any local places yet but did see that Home Depot has 7 lb. 2.5 in. x 4.5 in. x 9 in. Fire Clay Brick in stock. They are $1.68 each which seems to be a decent price. They also state they are good for up to 2460F. I was wondering if that is the correct brick or not. Link to them is below. I appreciate any help.

Okay, so I looked at the product through the link you included. The description says that fire brick in general is used in fire pits, fireplace, and brick ovens. There’s no mention about the “duty rating” of this particular material, but my guess is that it would be a low or medium duty product (which is what you want).
I was concerned about two things:
- One reviewer said the product they received differed significantly from the description on the web site, and they were concerned that they hadn’t been shipped the right product.
- It appears to be completely unavailable at local stores or online—probably because this is past end-of-season. (I stopped at my local HD yesterday for some edgers and found the outdoor section completely trashed as they were assembling Christmas trees!)
You might be okay with these if you can get them, or you might not. My personal feeling is that firebrick is the heart of your oven—everything else is either support or insulation. This is the material that is going to reach, retain, and refract high temperatures into the oven cavity. It needs to do that without cracking, leaching, or otherwise failing, bake after bake, year after year.
So if it’s at all possible to locate a stoneyard that either has it in stock according to the specifications that BrickWood publishes, or can special-order it for you, I would just do that. You won’t be able to go back and replace the firebrick later if you find it’s not adequate, unless you tear out the entire oven down to the slab and rebuild it.
Hope that helps, and let me know how this one turns out for you!

Thanks so much for the reply. The Home Depot near me actually has them in stock and I went in and looked at them. That being said I plan on calling one of the recommended places tomorrow to see what they have as I am sure it will be easy to get. I for sure would not want to tear that thing down!
